Hi, I am Mohru!
I am an artist currently based in Boston, Massachusetts. I was born and raised in Khorog, Tajikistan. I moved to the United States in 2016.
It all started with my childhood passion for painting natural landscapes. One of my favorite subjects was mountains, which is what my country is known for.
I share my vision with the world in the hope of inspiring a deeper connection between you the viewer and your own life. My work is a constant search for the best way to interpret the ideas that I have about myself and the world I live in. My cultural background has had a profound impact on the shaping of my identity as an artist. Each piece I create is simultaneously an extension from the past, where I have come from, and what I have learned. I am continuously inspired by the courage, beauty, and strength of Central Asian women, which guides my current work. In my paintings, you can find textile incorporated into the canvas, namely — atlas which is unique to my region. Atlas is defined by its colorful and bright swirls of colors and is a popular choice for dresses that Tajik women have worn over the years. It has become a part of my art, compelling me to express the great beauty and history of this fabric, its wearers, and of my culture as well.
